Trans+ Support Initiative brings resources to the community

SULLIVAN COUNTY, NY AND WAYNE COUNTY, PA – When local therapist, Paul, noticed that there was a lack of services for people who identify as transgender or non-binary in the area, he set out to do something about it.
“I have had transgender people and their families in my practice, and it’s always been apparent the lack of services in the 100-mile radius of my office,” he said.
In 2024, he attended a trans health conference at Geisinger Medical School in Scranton, PA and it inspired him to bring awareness and a community group closer to home.
He knew of a local family, Ann and her husband, who have an adult transgender son, and he reached out to them to form what is now known as the Trans+ Support Initiative of Wayne and Sullivan Counties (TSI).

To the editor:
Thank you for taking the time to highlight the good work TSI is doing to provide support for transgender and non-binary citizens in our area. At a time when some have demonized and dehumanized transgender people, TSI is doing important work to remind us that all citizens have the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
I hope anyone who has a negative view of this community takes up Paul’s invitation to have a conversation as I believe when good people are willing to come together to learn about each other, we tend to learn how more alike we are than different. TSI reminds us that all human beings deserve respect and the opportunity to live a life of dignity, which I believe aligns well with the principles upon which our country was founded.

Kudos for Covering Trans+ Support Initiative

To the editor:
Thank you for the article in the July 17 edition about the Trans+ Support Initiative, (TSI). Having a transgender person in my family and also in the family of a close friend has encouraged me to understand more. Getting the correct pronouns right has been tricky. There’s a lot more for me to learn. As I understand, this group was created to support families and friends and that definitely includes me.

Hungary government submits bill to roll back Orban-era anti-LGBTQ+ rules

BUDAPEST, Sept 15 (Reuters) - Hungary's government submitted a bill to parliament late on Monday that would remove anti-LGBTQ+ rules prohibiting the "promotion of homosexuality" to under-18s implemented by Viktor Orban's former nationalist government.
Orban's government, which was ousted after 16 years in an election in April, promoted a Christian-conservative agenda and in 2021 banned the "display and promotion of homosexuality" and gender change in media content accessible by under-18s.

US Episcopal Church welcomes first transgender cathedral dean

THE Episcopal Church in the United States has welcomed its first transgender cathedral dean, the Very Revd Micah Cronin.
He was installed as Dean of All Saints’ Cathedral, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, in August. Aged 30, he is also one of the Episcopal Church’s youngest cathedral deans.
In a letter to his new congregation, he described how he found his spiritual home in an Episcopal church at the age of 19, after feeling alienated from the conservative churches in which he grew up, which, he felt, did not accept him as a transgender man.
