U.S. Air Force to deny retirement pay for transgender troops being separated from service

WASHINGTON (AP) — The U.S. Air Force said Thursday it would deny all transgender service members who have served between 15 and 18 years the option to retire early and would instead separate them without retirement benefits. One Air Force sergeant said he was “betrayed and devastated” by the move.

The move means that transgender service members will now be faced with the choice of either taking a lump-sum separation payment offered to junior troops or be removed from the service.

Trans Rep. Sarah McBride blasts Trump’s transphobic policies as “appalling,” “cynical,” & wasteful

She said Trump's anti-trans crusade "betrays our values" and "sends the cruelest possible message to some of our most dedicated citizens."

Rep. Sarah McBride (D-DE), the first out transgender Congress member, blasted the Trump administration’s ban on trans military members in a blistering House floor speech. She called the ban “immoral,” “unfair,” and “un-American,” noting that it has forced thousands of highly qualified “patriots” out of military service while weakening the military and wasting billions in taxpayer dollars.

In her speech, McBride said it was “appalling” that while families gathered under [July 4th] fireworks to honor “our nation and freedoms made possible by those who have worn the uniform”, the Trump administration was “all too quietly forcing thousands of patriots for military service.”

Supreme Court issues devastating ruling for trans youth in Tennessee gender-affirming care ban case

One expert said that the decision basically legalizes anti-trans discrimination in all forms.

The ruling says that Tennessee’s ban on gender-affirming care does not discriminate on the basis of sex or transgender status, which the plaintiffs argued made it unconstitutional under the Equal Protection Clause. The ruling will allow the 25 states that currently have such bans on the books to continue to enforce them.
